Introduction of Huelva
Industrial port, town, and capital of Huelva province,SW Spain, 53 mi WSW of Seville, on the OdielRiver. Founded by the Carthaginians, it was latercolonized by the Romans. It was conquered in theeighth century a.d. by the Moors, who held it untilthe 15th century. Columbus resided for some time ata monastery here. An ancient Roman aqueduct is stillin use.
